Paddy Power is not a comic book character with flowy red hair and thighs that could crack walnuts (yet), but Ireland’s biggest bookie. They once bet on who would replace Pope John Paul. They’re basically three Irish betting agencies consolidated into one with an Onion sensibility. I like.
So I guess it’s not that much of a stretch that they’re taking bets on God’s existence. For just £5,000, you can place a bet if she (you heard me, I said SHE) exists, and Paddy Power plans to call the bet based on what the Large Hadron Collider finds. When the Collider crashes two protons (or ions? I was NOT great at chem) into each other at almost the speed of light, it’s supposed to reveal the earliest origins of the universe. I saw it on “60 Minutes,” and it’s kiiiiiinda badass. If this Collider finds a “God particle,” apparently we’ll finally have proof of HER existence.
The odds are 4 to 1 in God’s favor. Decent odds, no? I kinda want in.
